What is the Kimberly Project

The Kimberley Process (KP) is an international certification scheme started in 2003 under United Nations auspices. Its purpose is to block conflict diamonds—rough diamonds mined in regions where sales finance violence—from entering the legitimate market

At Harrison Beasant, we source only KP‑certified diamonds—rough stones traced through the global Kimberley Process to ensure they never fuel conflict. This international scheme, backed by 86 countries and eliminating more than 99% of conflict diamonds, gives our clients peace of mind when choosing something so deeply personal.

Why It Matters

Eradicating conflict diamonds from the global supply chain, which once accounted for 10–15% of rough diamond production, now reduced to under 1% .

Building trust: Over 99% of rough diamond trade is handled by KP-certified participants—86 countries, including the EU and major diamond exporters

How It Works

National legislation & controls
KP participants must adopt laws and institutions enforcing KP standards at every stage—mining, export, and trade.
Certification of rough diamonds
Every shipment is required to carry a government-approved KP certificate detailing origin, weight, and shipment information. Trade is limited to participant countries.
Data transparency and monitoring
Members must submit annual trade data to the KP’s Working Group on Statistics (WGS) and undergo peer reviews via the Working Group on Monitoring (WGM).
Global cooperation
Governments, civil society, and the diamond industry (represented by the World Diamond Council) collaborate as observers.
